A famous piece of media that centers around this topic and often makes an appearance in this genre of memes is the anime and manga series Berserk, with its protagonist Guts embodying the idea of "the indomitable human spirit."
On October 23rd, 2021, Instagram[1] page @basedwithswag posted the earliest-known memetic use of the phrase, which included an image of a man with no hands rolling a blunt and the caption, "holy shit." The post gathered over 300 likes in nearly a year (shown below).
